Charlotte first started Swimming aged four, when she began lessons at her local pool. She progressed through the local club system and was selected to compete for ParalympicsGB at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. On her Games debut, Charlotte narrowly missed out on a medal in the 100m Breaststroke (SB6), finishing 4th.
Over the next cycle, Charlotte describes winning the gold medal in the 100m Breaststroke (SB6) at the 2009 IPC European Championships in Reykjavik, Iceland as one of her most memorable moments in competition.
In 2010, Charlotte also set two European records, firstly in the 50m Breaststroke (SB6) at the BT Paralympic World Cup, Manchester. Later that summer, competing at the 2010 IPC World Championships in Eindhoven, Charlotte set another European record in the 100m Breaststroke (SB6).
On her second Games appearance at London 2012, Charlotte recorded the third fastest time of her career in her heat of the 100m Breaststroke (SB6), beating the Paralympic record set by team-mate Liz Johnson in the first heat just minutes previously. In the final, she further reduced this time to 1:39.16, but finished just 0.03 seconds behind Viktoriia Savtsova to take the silver medal. Liz Johnson took bronze.

Charlotte graduated from Stirling University in 2009 with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Sports Studies.
Charlotte was born with a congential condition which meant she had a shortened femur and a missing tibia in both legs. She had both her legs amputated through the knee when she was 15 months old and began to learn to walk with artificial limbs when she was around two years old.
