Dan Powell

Dan’s talent for Judo may well be in his genes: his father Terry was a World Champion judoka who also represented Great Britain in Judo at three Paralympic Games - Seoul 1988, Athens 1996 and Sydney 2000.

Dan was encouraged to start training by his family, and started competing aged 10. His breakthrough came at the 2009 World Youth Games in Hungary where he won a silver medal and he has since progressed to win the bronze medal at the 2011 German Open in the Men’s 81kg.

His elder brother Marc is also on the British Judo team and also made his Games debut at London 2012.

Competing in the -81kg class, Dan faced world, European and Paralympic champions in the opening round and the subsequent repechages, but he succeeded in finishing in joint 7th place.

Amongst all of his training commitments, Dan still finds the time to support Liverpool FC, of whom he is a massive fan.
