David Weir CBE

Dave Weir

David competed in the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta before taking a break from sport. He returned in time to compete at the 2004 Games in Athens, where he won a silver in the T54 100m and a bronze in the T54 200m.

In Beijing he won four medals: golds in the T54 800m and the T54 1500m, silver in the T54 400m and bronze in the T54 5000m (he did not compete in the marathon).

At his fourth Games, David got his London 2012 campaign off to a strong start by taking gold in the T54 5000m.

Within 48 hours, David was back in the Olympic Stadium to defend his T54 1500m title from Beijing. He took gold with a time of 3:12.09.

On the night that would later become known as 'Thriller Thursday' he won his third gold medal, taking gold in the T54 800m with a time of 1:37.63.

In his fourth and final event, the T54 Marathon, David brought his London 2012 campaign to a close with a sprint finish along The Mall, beating Swiss athlete Marcel Hug into silver and defending champion Kurt Fearnley into bronze.

David is also a regular competitor in the London Marathon, which he won for a record-equalling sixth time in April 2012, matching the achievement of Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson.

David received an MBE in January 2009 and he was subsequently awarded a CBE in the 2013 New Year's Honours.

He was also one of three Paralympic athletes shortlisted for the 2012 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

David is a father to daughter Ronnie and son Mason. In October 2012, he celebrated the birth of daughter Tillia,
