Heather Frederiksen MBE

At her first Paralympic Games in Beijing, Heather was one of the most successful British swimmers in competition, winning a bronze medal and two silvers. She also set a world record to win gold in the 100m Backstroke (S8).

At London 2012, Heather represented ParalympicsGB for the second time. Her Games highlights included a strong performance in the 100m Backstroke (S8) which led to her retaining her title from Beijing and claiming the gold medal with a time of 1:17.00.

She also battled tough competiton to take the silver medal in a dramatic 100m Freestyle (S8) final and claim another silver in the 400m Freestyle (S8).

Joined by Claire Cashmore, Steph Millward and Louise Walmsley, Heather competed in a thrilling 4x100m Medley Relay (34pts) final, where Australia seized the gold medal by 0.03 seconds and the ParalympicsGB quartet claimed silver.

Heather first started taking Swimming lessons at the age of five and joined Howe Bridge Aces Swimming Club at the age of seven. She has been competing ever since and thrives on the competitive element of the sport. Prior to her accident, Heather competed in non-disabled competition, winning the 2004 British 10km Open Water title.

Heather also has an ADI Driving Instruction Qualification and her ambition is to expand her driving school business once she has finished competing.

In the 2013 New Year's Honours, Heather was awarded a MBE.
