Karen made her Paralympic debut at London 2012.

Karen has an adventurous spirit and, amongst other achievements, she has cycled the length of Japan on her handbike, climbed El Capitan and been crowned the 2009 World Para-Triathlon Champion.

In 2009, Karen won a bronze medal in the Para-Cycling World Cup and she went on to join the British Para-Cycling team in 2010. Her achievements to date include winning two silver medals at the 2011 Para-Cycling World Cup in Sydney, Australia, in both the women’s H2 Road Race and Time Trial events.

At London 2012, Karen took the silver medal in the H 1-2 Time Trial with a time of 16:18.84, almost a minute clear of Swiss rider Ursula Schwaller, who took bronze.

In her second event at Brands Hatch, the H1-3 Road Race, Karen crossed the line hand in hand with ParalympicsGB team-mate  and training partner Rachel Morris. The pair wanted to share the bronze medal, but it was awarded to Rachel after officials examined the photo finish.

Following her Paralympic debut, Karen has continued her involvement in Para-Triathlon, winning silver in the women's TRI-1 at the 2012 Auckland ITU Aquathlon World Championships in October 2012.

In addition to her sporting achievements, Karen was awarded a doctorate in Geology from the University of Aberdeen in 1996. She also has a MA in Development Training and diplomas in Performance Coaching and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Karen has a spinal cord injury, which she acquired in a rock climbing accident.
