Part of the accreditation from the Council for Responsible Sport was awarded for offsetting our carbon footprint, and we’ve joined up with BP’s Target Neutral programme to deliver this.
Target Neutral is BP’s not-for-profit, integrated carbon management programme which is offsetting all travel from athletes and spectators going to the Games in 2012. Target Neutral is more than offsetting though – it’s about encouraging people to be aware of the carbon impact of travel and to take action to reduce their personal carbon footprint.
Since summer 2011, the Target Neutral team has been supporting three 2012 Paralympic hopefuls as they prepare for the Games by measuring their travel carbon footprint and then providing handy tips and tools to reduce the emissions.
Target Neutral has joined up with our Green Team project by offsetting the carbon footprint of our Preparation Camps at the University of Bath in 2010, 2011 and 2012. It will also be offsetting all of your travel to your preparation camps, the Games and home again in 2012. We’ll be looking at how carbon emission from travel can be measured, reduced and then offset – the complete solution!
Carbon offsetting funds investment in low carbon development projects around the world, often in areas that are affected first by global warming, and supports them in creating sustainable alternative technologies. These projects often create important social and economic benefits, such as employment and investment, for local communities.
