Day 11 Preview: Weir to race for fourth gold
8 months ago
David Weir aims to bring his – and Great Britain’s – London 2012 campaign to triumphant conclusion on the final day of the Games as he goes for gold in the Marathon after dominating the T54 distance races on the track.
And later in the day the curtain will come down on a terrific London 2012 Paralympic Games as the Olympic Stadium hosts the Closing Ceremony.
Medal prospects
Athletics: Weir will match cyclist Sarah Storey as Britain’s most successful London 2012 Paralympian if he wins his fourth gold of the Games in the T54 wheelchair Marathon on The Mall. It would be the sixth Paralympic gold of his career, his 10th medal from four Games.
Weir has won a record six London Marathons but has never taken a medal on the roads at Paralympic Games or World Championships.
Shelly Woods also won the London Marathon this year, and will be looking for more success on The Mall after failing to win a medal from her three events on the track.
The T54 Marathons get underway at 11:30.
Other British teams and athletes in action
Football 7-a-side: Britain play USA for seventh in their classification match after losing 4-3 in extra-time to Argentina on Friday. The match kicks off at 08:30 at the Riverbank Arena.
