Two new additions to ParalympicsGB

The British Paralympic Association (BPA) today announced two new additions to the ParalympicsGB team which will compete at London 2012.

The first is Crystal Lane, whose selection is the result of late bi-partitite slot allocated by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

Lane made her international debut in 2011 at the Para-Cycling Road World Championships where she won a bronze medal.

The second is Matthew Ellis, who is a replacement for Josh Beacham in the Football 7-a-side team. Beacham has been ruled out through injury.

Ellis competed for ParalympicsGB in the 7-a-side team in Beijing.

Andy Kaar has also withdrawn from the Athletics team due to injury.

Craig Hunter, Chef de Mission for ParalympicsGB, said today: “It is very sad for those whose injuries have meant that they can no longer join the team in London, but I would like to congratulate Crystal and Matthew on their selection.

“In particular, I’m delighted that Crystal has joined the team. She has worked very hard and I am pleased that we are now in a position to welcome her to ParalympicsGB.”

Gareth Sheppard, British Cycling’s Paralympic Performance Manager, said of Lane’s selection: “It was very unexpected news. We had applied for the place in March, and initially been told that we hadn’t been awarded one. Crystal had only narrowly missed out on initial selection, so it is fantastic to be able to give her the opportunity to compete in London. It really strengthens our team.”
