Paralympic Games schedule announced for Wheelchair Basketball teams
about a year ago
In their fight to win the London 2012 Paralympic Games, both the GB men's and women's teams face a series of demanding battles against some of their bitterest rivals.
With the world’s top 22 teams all on the hunt for a priceless gold medal, both the North Greenwich Arena and the Basketball Arena look set to house some stunning clashes!
First on court for Great Britain, the women’s team will take on the Netherlands (Thursday, August 30) as they seek to avenge the loss from their international friendly in Sheffield earlier this year; the evening then sees the GB men open their campaign with a repeat of the 2011 European Championship final, once again looking to score a victory over the strong German side.
Men’s Head Coach Murray Treseder said: "There are 11 teams that have the ability to make the Semi Final and both pools are going to be tough - there won't be an easy game for anyone. But the Paralympic Games are the pinnacle event for Wheelchair Basketball, so that's what you'd expect; we - like all the teams - need to bring our best form, but we've had a great build up and are ready for it!"
GB Women’s Coach Garry Peel said: “Anything can happen at the Paralympics so you’ve got to concentrate on making sure that you enter each and every match with the best form and attitude possible."
"We’ve had a fantastic preparation in the build up to the Games and are ready to face any challenge.”Garry Peel
