Shuker and Whiley, ranked No. 8 and 10 in the world for doubles respectively, faced Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot in the final on Court Three.

But the Dutch pair, who are both in the world's top five for doubles and singles, were too strong and won 6-1, 6-2 to claim their first Wimbledon title after finishing runners-up last year.

The British duo had upset the odds in their semi-final on Friday defeating second seeds Sharon Walraven and Annick Sevenans 7-6(5), 6-3 to become the first all-British wheelchair tennis team to reach a final at Wimbledon.

"We did pretty well just to reach the final and it's a shame we couldn't push Jiske and Aniek a bit harder but it was a great experience and we still have a few more tournaments to work on our partnership ahead of the Paralympics in September," said Shuker.

"It was my first time in a final at Wimbledon and I won't forget the experience. The crowds were amazing and hopefully it's made the British public more aware of what a brilliant sport wheelchair tennis is, whether to watch or try yourself."Jordanne Whiley

World No.1 in singles and doubles, Esther Vergeer teamed up with Marjolein Buis to clinch the third place play-off against Walraven and Sevenans 6-1, 6-1.

Meanwhile, in the men's doubles event the title was won by Tom Egberink and Michael Jeremiasz after they won their final against top seeds Robin Ammerlaan and Ronald Vink 6-4, 6-2.

British pair Gordon Reid and Marc McCarroll had to settle for fourth as they lost their third place play-off 6-1, 7-6(1) to Frenchmen Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer.

The world’s top players will be heading to the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Nottingham for the final Super Series event before the London 2012 Paralympics from July 17-22.
