Barcelona 1992

The Barcelona Paralympic Games was in the same city, used the same facilities, even the same village as the Olympics… and the crowds came in huge numbers! The response of the people of Barcelona to the competitions was tremendous. High entry qualifications were applied in order to guarantee that every medal was worthy to be won by its recipient. GB retained third place overall behind the USA and Germany. Since Seoul, the British Paralympic Association (BPA) had been formed, utilising some of the most experienced people in the country. It would be judged, quite rightly, not only in terms of the medal success of the team but on its promotion of elite training squads its fundraising, its PR activity and its management systems, before and during the Games.
