British Paralympic Association statement on IOC review of Tokyo 2020

The British Paralympic Association welcomes the news that the International Olympic Committee is evaluating a range of options including postponing the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in response to the escalating COVID-19 pandemic.

Stemming this global public health crisis and doing everything possible to safeguard the health and wellbeing of people everywhere must clearly take priority. For the sake of Paralympic athletes throughout the world who have had their training and qualification plans severely disrupted we hope a decision can be taken as quickly as possible to prevent further uncertainty.

We recognise that any decision to postpone the Games will be a huge undertaking for all involved notably our friends at the Tokyo 2020 organising committee. We at the British Paralympic Association will do everything in our power to support our sports and athletes during these most challenging of times.

Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee, expressed his support for the decision and said there was nothing more important than human life.
