Britain’s Georgia Wilson claimed silver on her debut at the European Para Dressage Championships in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

On her horse Midnight, the 23-year-old scored 73.47% in the grade two individual test to secure her place on the podium.

Austria’s Pepo Puch won the competition on Sailor’s Blue with 75.235% while home athlete Nicole den Dulk clinched the bronze on Wallace NOP with 73.25%.

Wilson, who trains with teammate Sophie Wells, acknowledged her expectations had already been exceeded, despite this being the first day of the championships.

“Wow. I came here with the aim of just getting through to the freestyle,” Wilson said.

“It was nerve-wracking, but I told myself just to breathe and it would be fine.

“Midnight gives me confidence; she doesn’t spook or anything, and she just loved to flick her toes.”

Elsewhere Mari Durward-Akhurst on Sky O’Hara finished seventh in the grade I individual test and qualified for the freestyle competition later in the week.
