Meenagh on form in Para Nordic World Cup Final
Scott Meenagh recorded the best set of results of his Para Nordic Skiing career with two top-ten finishes in the final round of the Para Nordic World Cup.
The Brit finished ninth in the biathlon sprint sitting final on Saturday at the final World Cup of the season before the Paralympic Games – before going one better in the individual event the following day.
Meenagh, 28, has turned his hand to Nordic skiing after also competing in both para rowing and para athletics in recent years.
The former Scotland U18 rugby player is hoping to earn selection for next month’s Paralympic Winter Games and did his chances no harm with his performances in Vuokatti, Finland.
“It’s been a great period of racing,” he said. “I’ve really enjoyed the immersion of back-to-back World Cups.
“Vuokatti has brought some new challenges compared to Oberried. The snow conditions here have been perfect here but it’s significantly colder which brings new challenges on the skis.
I am really proud of my recent performances. Most of all I feel my composure and clarity when shooting at high heart rate has improved.
The perfect prep
“Vuokatti has been the perfect venue for pre-PyeongChang racing. It brings every aspect of the sport together.”
Also competing in the World Cup Finals are fellow Brits Steve Arnold and Terry Ahrens.
Arnold did not finish Saturday’s sprint and he did not start Sunday’s individual event.
Ahrens, competing in the standing events, finished 12th in the sprint and 14th in the individual.
The World Cup continues on Tuesday with two days of cross-country action.
