Championing change: Social impact at ParalympicsGB

We are ParalympicsGB. Champions of change in a sporting revolution born in the UK more than 70 years ago. Together, we believe in winning real change for the lives of all disabled people in the UK.

We want to see a more inclusive environment for disabled people, in sport and in society by shifting public attitudes, improving lived experiences for disabled people and creating an environment where all disabled people can thrive.

Our work

Advocacy

ParalympicsGB is more than a sports team. It’s a platform for change. In a new video series My voice, our Paralympians are taking the mic and speaking to the world directly about their lives outside of sport - the things that matter to them. The monthly series will feature athletes from across our Paralympic sports and impairment groups, forming part of a first step in co-creating ParalympicsGB’s new focus on social impact over the next decade.

Beyond the Podium

Beyond the Podium was launched in 2021 as our initiative to harness the power of ParalympicsGB and our partnerships, to develop a more inclusive society, together. With a focus on creating an inclusive culture, we’ve established a series of regular forum events to create a safe and secure environment to facilitate new learning, best practice sharing, encourage collaboration and the discussion of challenges. Our unique convening power has enabled us to introduce key industry contacts, experts and suppliers to help our Partners develop their plans. To date this has included:

  • Building thriving inclusion networks
  • Athletes sharing their lived experiences
  • Allyship; What does it mean?
  • Case studies from our Partner family
  • Inclusive language
  • Recruitment and making adjustments
