Mixed four lead medals for rowers at Gavirate International Regatta

Triple success in Italy

Ellen Buttrick, Giedre Rakauskaite, Oliver Stanhope and James Fox led the way as the British PR3 mixed won gold at the Gavirate International Regatta.

Buttrick, Rakauskaite and Stanhope joined 2016 Paralympic champion Fox and crossed the line in 07:04.9.

The crew, coxed by Erin Wysocki-Jones, finished more than 11 seconds clear of their nearest rivals Australia in a dominant display on Italian water.

It was one of three British medals on the first of two finals days, as GB brought home medals in all of the events they entered.

Paralympic champions Lauren Rowles and Laurence Whiteley were upset by Dutch duo Annika van der Meer and Corne De Koning as they were beaten in the PR2 mix double sculls.

The victors crossed the line in 8:19.04, almost four seconds ahead of the British crew as they took home the silver medal.

Ben Pritchard and Andy Houghton both made the final of the PR1 single sculls, with the former snatching the final podium spot ahead of his teammate who finished fourth.

The former crossed the line in 10:12.06, almost three seconds ahead of his compatriot, but both were more than 40 seconds behind Ukraine’s Roman Polianskyi, who took home the gold.

Debutant Gregg Stevenson was also due to take to the water in a single scull, competing for GB for the first time in the PR2 men’s single – however, he was withdrawn on medical grounds.
