Bio

Born and bred in Barnsley, mother of two Sue initially started playing table-tennis when she was 12 years old but at the age of 18 she became wheelchair-bound and started playing table tennis in a wheelchair two years later. She competed in her first European Championships in 1998 and was European champion in 2005, having won silver in 2003 when seven and a half months pregnant.

She took gold in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 and again in Melbourne in 2006 and was World bronze medallist in 2006 and World silver medallist in 2014. Sue has represented GB in six Paralympic Games and in Rio 2016 she came heartbreakingly close to winning her first Paralympic medal, losing a very close match for the bronze medal 3-2 to the Serbian Nada Matic having led 2-0. But Sue proved dreams can come true when along with team-mate Megan Shackleton they beat Jordan to achieve a place in the semi-finals and guarantee a bronze medal for the duo in the Women’s Team Class 4-5.
