Great Britain will refocus their efforts towards the fifth-to-eighth-placed play-offs at the IBSA Goalball European Championships B after they were humbled by Ukraine on Thursday morning.

Having safely progressed through their group with victory over Slovenia and a draw against Spain on Wednesday, the GB team were beaten 12-2 at the quarter-final stage in Chorzow, Poland, missing out on the chance to gain promotion back to the A Pool.

GB found themselves a goal down inside the opening two minutes and their opponents continued to assert themselves from there on, quickly surging into a 3-0 lead.

The GB squad did pull a goal back but that only served to spur on the Ukrainians, who found the net again before the end of the first period.

When the action resumed, Ukraine continued to make hay and inside the next six minutes, they helped themselves to a further five goals.

With just under three minutes to go, the Ukrainians made it 10-1 but GB did find the net again to chip away at the deficit before their opponents bagged their 11th goal of the morning.

There was still time for Ukraine to score once more to round things off and seal their progress to the semi-finals while GB turn their attentions to Friday morning’s play-offs.
